Cornerstone Architectural Products spent the last few weeks putting the finishing touches on a new stone fireplace mantel display for the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Expo in New Orleans. The Cape Neddick is a stunning fireplace mantel with a rich history. The bricks that we developed our design from are said to originate from a shipwreck off the coast of Maine.
Restoration Work Leads to New Design Innovations
We came across the beautiful carved pieces for this mantel when we were asked to do restoration work during the renovation of a home in York, Maine. We matched the aged terra cotta color of the salvaged bricks and provided “new” bricks to the stone mason to complete the fireplace just as it had appeared in the original home.
The home then owners allowed us to take molds of the completed fireplace. This served as the basic structure for the new mantel. But we didn’t stop there. We added side columns with beautiful corbels, as well as a veneer overmantel – the intricate carvings and antique terra cotta complement our New England Veneer Stone® beautifully. For the expo display we chose Ledgestone in New England Blend, but any of our stone veneers can be used. We framed the center of the overmantel with 5” stone trim – the perfect spot for artwork or flatscreen – and finished off the top with stone crown molding.
The Unveiling of a Masterpiece
We chose the HPBExpo to release the newest design. Open to the trade only, this Expo is North America’s largest showcase of indoor/outdoor living. More than 350 leading manufacturers will be in attendance to demonstrate home hearth heating solutions, grills and outdoor kitchens and more. It’s a great place for retailers nationwide to find the latest products for their showrooms. Stop into booth #1006 if you are in the area to witness the finest fireplace mantels on earth.
